Exams

The team consists of a group of experienced Exam Officers and Administrators that are dedicated in providing an excellent service to all of our customers.

They are a central base team, located at the Openshaw Campus, where they each support an area of curriculum. As part of a dual role, each Exam Officer also has a designated campus when it comes to the running of examinations.

Rules and Regulations

The Manchester College works within the rules set by the Joint Council for Qualifications and Awarding Organisations. It is extremely important that the rules are adhered to.

Sitting Exams

The dates of your Nationally set exams will be made available to you via your student hub.

On demand exams will not be available via your student hub, these will instead be confirmed via your tutor.

You will usually sit your exam at the campus where you study. There are some exceptions to this so you must check the exams section of your student hub regularly.

All of the Rules and Regulations are available on this page of the website. They will also be available on the day of the examination in and around the exam room.  All Rules and Regulations must be adhered to, so it is extremely important that you read the documents available to you before and on the day of your exam.

You will need to bring equipment that is essential to the examination you are taking. Most examination papers vary as to what you require for the examination, so it is best to check with your tutor before hand.

You are expected to bring along your own equipment to each exam. We only have miminal spare equipment to provide if you are unable to bring your own.

You will need your ID Badge to get on to the campus and to sit your examination. If you forget you ID, you must go to Reception before your exam and pay for a replacement ID Badge.

Food is not allowed into the exam room. If you need to bring a drink it must be in a clear plastic bottle with the label removed.

Ideally you should arrive 30 minutes before the start of your exam.

You may be allowed to enter the exam room, this will be at the discretion of the centre staff. This is dependent on the length of the exam you are sitting.

This is known as a ‘clash’, the Exams team will make alternative arrangements for this and let you know the arrangements on the Student Hub.

You should plan to stay for the stated duration of each exam. You must be kept under exam conditions until the minimum required time per exam has passed, this is dependent on the length of each exam.

This depends if there is a resit date for the particular examination within the academic year/s you are enrolled on the course. Please check with your tutor.

Registration and Entries

You will automatically be registered with the Awarding Organisation based on the course details when you completed your enrolment. We will use some of the details that you have provided on your enrolment form to complete this registration, for example your name and date of birth.

Where there is a requirement for the exams team to enter you for a National Set Exam, we will ask your tutor to confirm if they would like to enter you for a particular Examination Series.  Typically, the series’ will either be in November, January, March and May/June.

For On Demand exams, you will be entered at the request of your tutor.

Examination Results

The results of your Examinations are extremely important to us. We aim to get them to you as soon and efficiently as possible.

There are different ways you will receive your results, depending on the type of qualification you are studying. Some examples of different methods you can receive your results are below. There is also some information below on post results services, for example how to request a review of marking to the awarding body.

If your examination is an online test and was arranged for you via your tutor then your tutor should be able to pass you your results shortly after the examination. Timescales do vary depending on the Awarding Organisation. Please liaise with your tutor.

If your examination was paper-based and was arranged by your tutor, then your tutor will either mark the paper or the Exams team will send the paper back to the Awarding Organisation for marking.  Either way your tutor will inform you of your results.  Timescales do vary depending on the Awarding Organisation. Please liaise with your tutor.

GCSE

These examination results are subject to nationally recongised release dates. Your results will appear on the Student Hub on the results day.

Vocational

Most Vocational overall examination results are subject to nationally recongised release dates. Your results will appear on the Student Hub on the results day. You will receive your certificate for your confirmed overall result as soon as possible after being claimed by your tutor.

Where you are expecting unitised results, these will be provided by your tutor when they are made available by the Awarding Body on results day.

For some examinations, the Awarding Organisations offer a Post Results Service for students, where you feel you have not been graded correctly. The application forms will be available to collect from your tutor who you will need to complete the form with.  The application form should then be taken to the Reception at the campus where you study for processing of the payment. It is then submitted to the Exams team for processing with the awarding body. There is a limited period of time you can apply for these services, so you should aim to complete and return this form as soon as possible once your results have been made available to you.

Certification

The Awarding Organisations release certificates to the college when we inform them you have successfully completed your course. The release dates of the certificates will vary depending on the qualification and Awarding Organisation.

When the college recieves your certificate from the Awarding Organisation, we aim to post it out to you within 6 weeks. It is posted out by 2nd class post, to the most recent address we hold on our system. Your certificate will arrive at your home address in a hard backed envelope. The envelope will also contain a form for you to fill in should there be any anomalies on your certificate.

Any undelivered certificates are retained by the college for a maximum of 2 years. If you have not received your certificate and it has been more than 2 years since you finished your qualification, you will need to contact the Awarding Organisation directly.

If you lose your certificate, you can arrange for a replacement by contacting the relevant Awarding Organisation.

If you have a query about certification, you can raise it via the self-service system here.
