Results day means business for Rebecca
The focused student has overcome a difficult year to gain a place at business school.
Business savvy Rebecca has overcome a number challenges this year to secure a place at the Royal Holloway University of London with a D*D*D* result.
As well as studying a Level 3 Business Venture with Entrepreneurship during a pandemic, the 18-year-old spent two months caring for her mum who suffered a brain haemorrhage during lockdown.
Despite time away from her studies to look after her mum, who has since made a full recovery, Rebecca has secured a degree place at the university’s School of Business and Management which includes a full industry year gaining skills in the workplace.
Her ambition does not end there as she is looking to complete a Masters in Business before eventually owning her own business.
She said: “I’m really excited about going to university in London and my mum is really pleased for me as well. Looking back over the year, I don’t know how I’ve managed it.
“College were really helpful and didn’t put pressure on me while I was away. I had my mentor Cheryl calling me every day to see how I was and keeping my tutors informed.”
Rebecca’s clear business focus meant that she chose to study a BTEC, which enabled her to focus on the subject as a whole.
She said: “With Business A Level, you had to choose two other A Levels subjects to study as well.
Choosing a BTEC meant that I could study the whole subject, from accounting to finance, and I really enjoyed learning those 18 different units.
“I’d recommend The Manchester College to anyone thinking of applying because the tutors really helped everyone in my class and the way you are taught gives you the time to properly explore a subject and find out what you want to specialise in.”
Tutor Cheryl McDonald said: “Rebecca has been an excellent student over the two years she has studied at the College. From the start, she has shown enthusiasm and always submitted work before deadlines. She took it upon herself to register for S4Snextgen where she has attended various work placements for one day work experience including PWC, IKEA, Bentley Motors and Superdry. Rebecca has also attended OFCOM and Spotify as week placements during her two years at college.”
