The Level 3 Diploma in Network Engineering equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to understand, configure, and manage modern computer networks.
The course focuses on the core networking technologies used in real-world IT environments, including network infrastructure, routing and switching, IP addressing, and network security. You will develop both theoretical understanding and hands-on experience through practical and simulated networking activities.
Topics covered include:
- Network architecture and infrastructure
- Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs)
- IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and subnetting
- Router and switch configuration
- Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs)
- Routing technologies and protocols
- Network security and data protection
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting network connectivity issues
The course also incorporates elements of the Cisco networking curriculum, helping you build industry-relevant skills that are widely used by network engineers and IT professionals.
To enrol on this course, you would be expected to have:
- A full Level 2 qualification in IT or relevant professional experience in computing or networking
- Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths, or GCSE grade 4 (or equivalent), which are desirable
All applicants will be assessed during the enrolment process to ensure the course is appropriate for their current knowledge, skills, and career goals.
Assessment methods vary depending on the unit you are studying.
• Networking Cisco units are assessed through online multiple-choice exams and practical simulated networking assessments.
• Supporting units are assessed through written assignments and coursework.
These assessments are designed to evaluate both your technical understanding and your ability to apply networking skills in practical scenarios.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor to support your progress throughout the course.
