Lisa Breakey accepting her VTCT Educator of the Year award

The Manchester College’s Lisa Breakey wins VTCT Educator of the Year

Hair and Beauty Therapy Team Lead Lisa Breakey has received a VTCT Excellence Award.

Lisa Breakey, Hair and Beauty Therapy Team Leader at The Manchester Colleges, has won Educator of the Year at the VTCT Excellence Awards.

The VTCT Excellence Awards recognise the talent, dedication, and innovation of educators and learners who display excellence across sectors such as hairdressing, health and social care, logistics and early years childcare.

The Educator of the Year award celebrates educators with exceptional skills and expertise, and who go the extra mile to support students.

Commenting on her win Lisa talked about her team’s contribution to her receiving the award, saying: “I work as part of a really strong team so being singled out is not me at all, because everything we do, we do as a team."

When the VTCT Excellence Awards nominees were announced, Lisa received an outpouring of support from students from her 15 years of teaching. It was mentioned at the event, which this year was hosted at the College's City Campus Manchester, that Lisa’s nomination was the closest that the VTCT has ever gotten to ‘going viral’ on social media.

Lisa continued: “I had messages from students I had taught over the years saying how I’d impacted their lives.

That feeling of having an impact on someone’s life is probably the most rewarding thing.

College Principal Rachel Curry commented: "Lisa is so deserving of this recognition and it Is fantastic that her excellence, passion, hard-work and commitment to her students has been recognised with this award. Everyone at the College sends a huge congratulations to Lisa for her well-deserved accolade."
