Students from The Manchester College’s Centre of Excellence for Hair and Beauty Therapy recently took part in the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists' (AHT) regional heat at Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool and walked away with five top four finishes across three categories.

The regional heat leads to the national final at the same venue in May and it has been a hallmark event on the Hair and Beauty department’s annual calendar for years, providing the opportunity for the College's students to compete against aspiring hair and beauty professionals from across the region.

The talented Level 2 and Level 3 students, who are based at the College’s Harpurhey Campus, were placed for their expertise in bridal make-up and nails, and came second in the ‘Create an Image Based on a Theme’ category (pictured), which is a team event.

Barry Atkins, The Manchester College’s Vice Principal for its further education curriculum reflected on the students’ achievements: “I know how much the AHT regional heat means to the staff and students from our College’s Centre of Excellence for Hair and Beauty Therapy.  The event is something that they look forward to throughout the academic year and it’s great to see the knowledge and skills they’ve learnt in our industry-standard facilities being recognised in this way.

“I’m extremely proud of all our students and it was great to get first place in the Bridal Make-Up category.

In addition to putting their skills to the test, our students also got the chance to network with leading employers and professionals from the sector as many of the competition’s categories are sponsored.
