If you've got a passion for coaching others and would like to develop your skills further to lead sports sessions , this NVQ Level 2 in Sports Coaching and School Sport is a great place to start, as you'll find out exactly what makes a good coach.
You'll be learning a number of essential coaching skills in this practical course, including how to prepare for a session and then lead it effectively, how to set up equipment correctly and ensure there's a safe environment, and how to look after children in your care and teach them the skills they need to succeed.
As part of this course, you'll get to work with highly-qualified staff who have great links to professional sports clubs. As you develop the teamwork, leadership and coaching skills that will help you to secure a successful career, you'll also get to learn all the about the sports industry, with expert advice from guest speakers and visits to top sports clubs and venues.
With this qualification, you will gain a key understanding of the theory and practice behind delivering safe, ethical and effective coaching sessions. This will enable you to make sure that they have the knowledge and skills that you need to support the people that they work with.
This course is suitable for you if you are passionate about coaching young people in a team, community or school setting. It will also enable you to confirm the competence required your club, community or school.
Working with local primary schools, this course prepares you to deliver activity sessions that are safe, ethical and effective, and prove your competence in leading activity sessions in an appropriate sports/leisure environment.

Work Experience is a vital part of the course and you will be supported in finding a work placement relevant to your study.
Assessment for this NVQ will be tailored to your needs, but will be practical-based and involve leading groups. You'll also keep a record of everything you learn and complete in a log of work, with evidence of your practical sessions.
After successfully completing this Sports Coaching and School Sport course, you could go on to study one of our Level 3 qualifications in Sport.
You may then want to develop your knowledge and experience further by studying at university, or, you might be ready to jump straight into one of a number of careers in the industry, as you become an activity leader, sports assistant or coach in schools, clubs and community centres.
