This Level 1 BTEC in Sport and Active Leisure is a great place to start for anyone who wants to learn more about the sports industry, develop the skills they'll need for a job in the sector, and just get more involved with sport as a whole.
From learning about how the body works and why exercising and playing sports is important for a healthy lifestyle, to a deeper look at the sports and active leisure industry and the kind of roles, tasks and customers you might be faced with, you'll develop a wide knowledge and broad set of skills that all relate to sport.
You'll be participating in lots of practical sessions – both playing games and leading them, learning how to organise sporting events safely and effectively, and even visiting famous professional sports clubs and venues! You'll be taught by highly qualified staff and get expert advice from guest speakers too, further developing your experience and abilities.

Work Experience is a vital part of the course and you will be supported in finding a work placement relevant to your study.
You'll be assessed throughout the whole of this course, keeping a log of work of all the different practical sessions, reports, reflections and short assignments you complete. For practical tasks, your tutor will observe you both on your participation skills and how you lead a group.
This introductory Level 1 course will lay the foundations you need to continue onto a number of other sport-related diplomas and certificates with us at The Manchester College. You could take an NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership next, or a BTEC in Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness, or even get a qualification in Public Services – the choice is yours!
Whichever route you decide upon, you'll develop the skills and knowledge to succeed in a number of sports-related careers, including coaching, managing clubs, teaching PE and many more.
