If you are looking for a career in the TV, Film, Radio or Digital Media sector, this course will provide you with the knowledge and
practical skills needed to succeed.

Designed to prepare you for both higher education and employment, the programme focuses on developing creativity, technical expertise and industry awareness across a range of media disciplines.

You will explore areas such as film and television production, radio and podcasting, motion design, animation, and digital storytelling. The course encourages you to experiment with different techniques, work collaboratively on projects, and build a portfolio
that showcases your strengths.

Employment-focused skills are embedded throughout the course, giving you the confidence to apply for production, design and
creative roles straight after college.

Past students have worked with charities, community groups and independent clients, developing their skills in response to professional briefs with real-world deadlines. Our tutors provide a supportive transition from broad creative practice to more specialist study, helping you identify your individual pathway — whether that's progressing to university, securing an apprenticeship, or stepping directly into the creative industries.

This course is assessed through project-based assessment.

As a student you will complete a series of internally set and assessed projects throughout the year.

These projects mirror industry-style briefs (e.g. producing a short film, creating a podcast, developing a motion graphic sequence).

Each project requires you to demonstrate skills in planning, research, production, and evaluation. Evidence through Written reports, blogs and diaries, sketchbooks, portfolio development, image creation, design solutions, audio-visual recordings, one to one feedback and interviews.

You will be marked on your creative process as well as your final product. There are no formal examinations connected to this course.
The Final Major Project is the key summative assessment, it allows you to define and direct your own project, showcasing your specialist skills (e.g. film direction, sound design, animation).

The Final Major Project grade determines the overall qualification grade (Pass, Merit, Distinction).

Upon successful completion of this qualification, you could progress on to degree-level study with our higher education partner, UCEN Manchester.

Students progressing from The Manchester College will receive a cash award through the Achievers Scholarship.

You can also complete a foundation degree in Creative Arts and Digital Media or apply for another university level degree course.

Alternatively, you could progress straight on to a career as a:
• Graphic designer
• Illustrator
• Art worker
• Content creator in marketing
• Runner
• Entry level editor, producer
