Essential Business Skills

Our Level 1 Certificate in Essential Business Skills qualification is designed for anyone over the age of 19 who wishes to develop their business skills and progress onto further study.

The course will help you to develop your knowledge of key business functions and the functions associated with them. Tasks to complete will include finance spreadsheets, creating professional documents, and hosting an event.

If you start this course in September, you will study one day a week and complete the certificate by June, or you could complete the smaller award (fewer modules) by January.

There are no formal requirements for this qualification, and you need no prior knowledge, understanding, or skills; however, you will require a suitable level of maths and English.

You'll be assessed using a variety of methods, including assignment work, annotation of practical activities, question and answering, witness statements and recordings, and completed practical activities as though you were in the workplace.

Upon successful completion of this qualification, you'll have the opportunity to develop your skills further onto our Level 2 Business courses, such as Customer Service, Leadership and Team Skills, Legal Studies, Accountancy, or IT Support. The qualification will also provide an excellent foundation for progression onto any other Level 2 course the college has to offer.

If you wanted to go straight into a job, then this qualification will give you an advantage when applying for entry-level roles in business, including roles such as an administrative assistant or office assistant.
