Are you passionate about fitness, health, and understanding how the human body performs? This exciting two-year course is designed to prepare you for a successful career in the health and fitness industry or progression to university.
Delivered at The Manchester College, this programme combines practical training with scientific knowledge, giving you the skills, qualifications, and real industry experience needed to stand out.
Course Structure
This is a two-year programme designed to build your skills step-by-step:
Year 1 – Gym Instructor Qualification (Level 2)
You will begin by developing the core knowledge and practical skills needed to work in a gym environment. This includes:
• Supporting clients safely in a fitness setting
• Learning key principles of anatomy, physiology, and exercise
• Delivering basic fitness instruction and gym-based programmes
At the end of Year 1, you will achieve the Active IQ Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, allowing you to work in a gym environment.
Year 2 – Personal Training Qualification (Level 3)
In your second year, you will progress to advanced study, focusing on:
• Personalised programme design and advanced training methods
• Sports nutrition and exercise science
• Behaviour change, motivation, and client management
• Business and enterprise skills for working as a Personal Trainer
You will complete the Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training

Applicants must possess 5 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above, including Maths and English. A DBS check may also be required for entry onto this course.

- This course is assessed through a combination of:
• Practical assessments, where you demonstrate your ability to plan and deliver fitness sessions
• Coursework and assignments, including case studies and programme design
• Online and written assessments to test your knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and nutrition
• Professional discussions and observations in practical settings
Assessment is continuous across the two years, allowing you to build confidence and develop your skills over time.
