Are you thinking of studying for a Degree in a Humanities based subject but don't quite have the qualifications that you need? Our Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma in History and Archaeology will give you that stepping-stone you need.

Whether it is Indiana Jones or Lara Croft that has you enthralled to become an archaeologist, or whether it is the intrigue and the complexities of the past, this course will more than satisfy the inquisitive mind. The course consists of two core modules, History and Archaeology, and will keep you enthralled and intrigued from beginning to end.

You'll be studying a wide historical chronology of the world that spans 30,000 years. From the Ancient Egyptians and the Romans through to the medieval period of Britain, that saw the 30-year struggle for the English crown by the two great houses of Lancaster and York to Henry VIII's controversial religious Reformation and the creation of the Church of England.

The archaeology module will not only offer a great insight into the archaeological remains of Britain from the prehistoric period through to the early medieval period, but will also teach you the science behind the nature and preservation of archaeological artefacts.

At the same time you are expanding your historical and archaeological knowledge, you will also be acquiring valuable academic skills. You'll be balancing simultaneous assignments and deadlines as well as learning how to write academic essays, how to research primary and secondary sources as well as perfecting your presentation skills.

Applicants will require GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in both English and Maths or equivalents. You can study a Maths GCSE alongside this diploma if needed.
Prospective students should check the entry requirements of their preferred university to ensure the best possible opportunity for progression

You'll be assessed continuously throughout this Access Diploma. This will include academic essays and reports, lectures, projects, presentations, seminars and exams

Upon successful completion of this qualification, you'll have the qualifications and the knowledge needed to enrol on a university-level course in the discipline that most interests you. Progress on to degree-level study with our higher education partner, UCEN Manchester. Students progressing from The Manchester College will receive a cash award through the Achievers Scholarship.
Whichever path you choose, you'll find a number of career opportunities in the history and archaeology sector.
