Our T Level in Design Surveying and Planning for Construction specialising in Construction and the Built Environment – equivalent to three A Levels – has been designed for you if you want to progress into a career in the construction industry.

This qualification has been co-developed and designed with construction industry partners – including Bowmer & Kirkland, Caddick Construction, Conlon Construction, Kier Construction, Lendlease, Lovells Construction, NG Bailey, Vinci UK, Wates Construction and Willmott Dixon - and will be delivered by both college tutors and industry experts.

Taking place in our brand new, purpose built, industry standard construction facility at our Openshaw campus, you'll regularly interact with people from the construction industry, both inside and outside of the classroom and workshop. You'll have access to guest speakers and industry experts visiting and taking classes, employer set projects, site visits, relevant field trips and industry placements on live sites out in the world of work.

Class sizes are kept intentionally small (12 max) to support accelerated learning and use high quality materials and resources developed in partnership with our employers. You'll spend dedicated time in class with industry experts – who will deliver and assess bespoke modules which fill critical skills gaps the industry have identified. Plus, you'll be assigned a specialist employability tutor to support you with your programme and progression towards readiness for the world of work.

Those successful in gaining a place on the T Levels will be eligible for the ‘T Award', a package of benefits that includes:
• £300 per year bursary*
• Branded work wear
• Minimum 20% delivery by industry experts
• Access to industry standard laptop* (as appropriate)
• Minimum 45- day industry placement
• And much more
*Subject to requirements

Achieved 5 GCSE's grade 9-4 including English or Maths and successful completion of Jump Starts to T Levels programme

This qualification will be studied via “blended learning”, taking the very best classroom-based activity and combining it with the very best digital and remote learning and delivery from our industry experts.
Time in college will be spent learning in our brand-new purpose built Openshaw construction centre, in industry standard workshops and classrooms. Some of your learning time will be “Project Led”, bringing together your theory, knowledge and practical skills into an individual or group project, such as a community action project.
You'll be assessed through two examination papers, paper 1 (Science and Building Technology) and paper 2 (Construction Industry and Sustainability), and an employer set project.
There is also a single synoptic assessment for the Occupational Specialist Component, which is an extended ‘design, development and implementation' project.

Upon successful completion of this qualification, you'll have the qualification and experience you need to progress either to highly skilled employment, an apprenticeship or continue onto a university level degree or course related to the construction industry. All of these options could even potentially be sponsored by your industry placement employer.
You could continue your journey with us by progressing on to degree-level study with our higher education partner, UCEN Manchester by completing a HNC or HND in Construction and the Built Environment, both of which are industry recognised level 4 and level 5 qualifications. Students progressing from The Manchester College will receive a cash award through the Achievers Scholarship.
