The course helps reps identify, prevent and control risks, helping to build a safer and healthier workplace. It encourages reps to involve members in safety issues by developing a collective approach to health and safety. It helps reps keep up to date with health and safety law and information, enabling them to use both more effectively.

The course also helps reps build health and safety organisation and bring about real change in the workplace.

This course is designed for health and safety representatives who have already completed the TUC Health and Safety Stage 1 course, or its equivalent, and who have experience as elected health and safety reps.

Delivered one day per week for 10 weeks, the course will help you to:

• Build a safe and healthy workplace
• Build health and safety organisation
• Keep up to date with health and safety issues
• Bring about change in health and safety
• Plan for the future.

Union representatives who wish to take this course should have one of the following:

• Previously attended the TUC Health and Safety Stage 1 course
• Obtained a suitable equivalent to the one above through their own union's courses or from elsewhere.

You also need to ensure that you have time off to attend this course and that you have informed the appropriate union branch official or officer of your intention to take the course.

Over the course of the 10 weeks you will be continuously assessed by the course tutor through classroom and workplace-based activities.

Completing this course enables you to progress to the TUC Occupational Health and Safety Diploma. You can also enrol on further TUC programmes.
