This qualification will help students gain an understanding of business fundamentals and will provide you with the skills needed to work in the private or public sector. Perhaps you would like to own your own business one day but don't know where to start – if so, this is the course for you.
Pre-Access is the ideal course if you have either been out of education for a while or need to attain English and maths qualifications required to progress to an Access to HE course or employment.
The course will introduce you to key subjects, including assessing capacity to start and run a business, developing a business plan, understanding social enterprise, and undertaking an enterprise project, enabling you to identify which area you'd like to focus on in more detail for your further education and future career. You'll also be developing the knowledge, skills, and behaviours you'll need for further study in a subject you're passionate about.
Alongside the course, you will have the opportunity to study English and/or maths qualifications to enable your further progression. The level of English and maths you are enrolled in will be dependent on your prior qualifications (see entry requirements) and completion of an initial assessment.
You will require Level one English and Maths Functional Skills (FS) or above to start the course. Depending on your starting qualifications, you can study Maths and English FS Level 2, or GCSE English and Maths alongside the course.
You may be invited to discuss learning routes to your future career.
Assessments for this qualification are made up of coursework and examinations.
Upon successful completion of this qualification students will be able to progress onto an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Business. Students can use these qualifications to then progress onto a business related degree, or to start their own business enterprise.
