Health and Social Care

In Summer 2021 we opened our brand new facilities at our Openshaw campus.

These new facilities are home of our Industry Excellence Academy for Health and Social Care and will be where our T Level provision is based.

Industry-standard facilities that have been developed specifically for your course, include:

  • A state-of-the-art mock hospital ward complete with complete with industry-standard hospital beds, screens, chairs, bedside tables, PPE equipment, blood pressure monitors, a nursing station with computer, hand washing facilities, toilet and ceiling hoist.
  • An infectious disease area that will contain a hospital bed and associated PPE resources to facilitate barrier nursing.
  • A Care Suite with a lounge area, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom fully fitted with assistive and adaptable fixed equipment (bed/bath) plus additional equipment such as ceiling hoist, walking frames, height adaptable chairs and tables, crutches and wheelchairs.  The kitchen will also be fully stocked with adapted feeding equipment.

These amazing new facilities will provide you with access to everything you will see once you enter the workforce, giving you the best possible chance to prepare for a future career.

Strong health and care workers are key to everyone’s future, playing a vital role wherever they go. Learning in spaces that closely mirror hospital and care home facilities will enable our students to feel prepared to enter the workforce and thrive and get the most from the expertise offered by our industry partners.

Our Openshaw campus is located on Ashton Old Road. It is easy to get to via public transport, with many bus routes stopping directly outside the campus, including the 219 bus running regularly from Manchester Piccadilly Station. Ashbury’s train station and the Etihad Campus Metrolink station are only a 10 minute walk away.  You can find out how to get there from your home address using the Transport for Greater Manchester route planner: Plan a journey | Transport for Greater Manchester (tfgm.com)

We also have secure bike storage facilities on site so, with showers on campus, you also have the option to cycle to College.

Additionally, if you are aged 16-18 and live in Greater Manchester, you are entitled to free bus travel across the region seven days a week with ‘Our Pass’ (click the link to find out more and apply). Eligible adult students can also get support with travel costs (click the link to find out more and apply).
