Are you thinking of studying for a Degree in Teacher Training but don't quite have the qualifications that you need? Our Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma in Education will give you that stepping-stone you need and will provide all the foundations needed to advance your knowledge and train to become a successful teacher.
You will be exploring education, learning and teaching – alongside English and Psychology – you'll get a broad introduction into key areas, including teaching strategies, learning styles, assessment methods, and designing, facilitating and evaluating learning (reflective practice). You will analyse and write your own poetry, analyse plays, novels and practice your creative writing. You will also be introduced to a wide variation of children's literature. In Psychology you will learn early childhood development and adolescence mental health and well-being, and how to apply Psychological theory and research into an educational setting.
As well as delving into theories of how children learn and attainment in schools, you'll also take part in a six-week (one day per week) teaching placement in a school and an assessed Micro-Teach session, complete with an Enhanced DBS check. This will help you to develop theoretical underpinnings of teaching and then put what you know into practice, ensuring you're well prepared for university and your future career.
GCSEs in both English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
If you would like to advance into primary education, you will also need at least a C/4 grade in GCSE Science, and it is advisable to have formal classroom experience.
You may want to read up on the QTS Skills Test too, a requirement for all trainee teachers, and start exploring possible degree options.
