Overview
If you’ve got a passion for coaching others and would like to develop your skills further to lead sports sessions or outdoor activities, this NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership is a great place to start, as you’ll find out exactly what makes a good coach.
You’ll be learning a number of essential coaching skills in this practical course, including how to prepare for a session and then lead it effectively, how to set up equipment correctly and ensure there’s a safe environment, and how to look after children in your care and teach them the skills they need to succeed.
As part of this course, you’ll get to work with highly-qualified staff who have great links to professional sports clubs. As you develop the teamwork, leadership and coaching skills that will help you to secure a successful career, you’ll also get to learn all the about the sports industry, with expert advice from guest speakers and visits to top sports clubs and venues. -

Work Experience is a vital part of the course and you will be supported in finding a work placement relevant to your study.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment for this NVQ will be tailored to your needs, but will be practical-based and involve leading groups. You’ll also keep a record of everything you learn and complete in a log of work, with evidence of your practical sessions.

Continuing Your Journey
After completing this Activity Leadership course, you’ll get a Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations. From here, you’ll find a clear path in front of you at The Manchester College, as you could go on to study a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Sports Development Coaching and Fitness or a Certificate in Delivering Physical Education.

You may then want to develop your knowledge and experience further by advancing onto a Foundation degree in Sports Coaching. Or, you might be ready to jump straight into one of a number of careers in the industry, as you become an activity leader, sports assistant or coach in schools, clubs and community centres. -
