Hair Skills

The VTCT Level 2 Qualification in Hair Skills is designed to help you progress to the next stage of vocational learning and prepare you for a career as a hairdresser or hairdressing apprentice.

This qualification covers all the essential skills required for hairdressing, including a mandatory unit in creating an image based on a theme.

You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills further by selecting from optional units, such as:

- Blow-drying and finishing hair
- Basic winding techniques
- Shampooing and treating the hair
- Basic plaiting and twisting
- Colouring hair using semi-permanent colour
- Basic clipper cutting techniques
- Basic cutting techniques

Throughout the course, you will take part in practical, hands-on training, using industry-standard facilities and equipment to refine your skills.

You will gain a deeper understanding of professional hairdressing techniques, customer service, and salon health and safety, ensuring you are well-prepared for further study or employment in the industry.

You will need to have achieved GCSE grades 1-3 in English and Maths, have previous salon experience, or have completed a Level 1 qualification in Hairdressing.

You will be assessed through observation of practical performance, written questions, assignments, and online exams.

Upon successful completion you can to study the following Level 2 courses:
- Women's Hairdressing
- Hair and Media Make-up
- Barbering
