If you have experience in both assessing learners and the internal quality assurance of these assessments, and you'd like to take a step up in your career, then you may want to train to become a lead internal quality assurer. This Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices can help get you there.

You'll learn how to carry out the internal quality assurance of assessments and lead the team of Assessors and IQA's by planning, allocating caseloads and supporting others. One unit will focus on understanding the principles and practice of internally assuring the quality of assessment, another will be based on practical internal quality assurance of assessments, and the third will help you plan, allocate and monitor work in your own area of responsibility.

For this qualification, you'll be able to work within your own organisation on your own time. You'll meet with your assessor for coaching and support at regular intervals, and will have access to an electronic portfolio and full library of learning support materials.

Along with possessing outstanding communication skills – both written and verbal – you'll need to be a qualified and experienced assessor already to enrol on this course. You should be working in a learning environment that has assessors working with learners who require assessment to achieve their own qualifications.

You'll also need to meet any requirements specified by your industry for quality assurance. Before you enrol, we'll ask you to complete an eligibility checklist, and invite you for an interview to ensure this course is right for you.

You'll be assessed in a number of different ways for this Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices. One unit will involve the completion of questions in a workbook and a professional discussion with your assessor.

The other two units are practical based. Your assessor will observe you carrying out internal quality assurance of assessments, as well as watching how you manage a team of IQAs and assessors in their day-to-day job roles.

After completing this qualification, you'll be well placed to take up a prominent position within your organisation. You could choose to work towards achieving a teaching qualification if you'd like to pursue a career in the education industry.

Many students go on to work for a training centre or college in the role of the Lead IQA. Once you're experienced in quality assurance, you could also apply to awarding organisations to become an External Quality Assurer.
