At our 1853 training restaurant, you’ll dine in a friendly and relaxed environment, where our service team will host you for lunch or dinner and serve you a selection of high-quality food.
You’ll be given special attention by our team and will enjoy a menu that’s always changing and innovating to reflect local, seasonable produce and the skills & talents of our chefs who are working and training in our state-of-the-art kitchen.
Run by students in our Industry Excellence Academy for Hospitality and Catering, our 40-seat restaurant and bar also has street level access so passers-by alike can enjoy the tasteful talents of our students dishes.
You can find us in Manchester city centre right next door to the AO Arena at our new City Campus Manchester.
1853 will reopen from Wednesday 22 January 2025 for lunch service, with bookings available going forwards every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during term time from 12pm to 12.45pm.
Our lunchtime menu comprises of small plates, of classic and contemporary dishes, delicious desserts and modern starters with a set tasting menu for the evening. Our menu changes on a regular basis, you can view an example menu below.

We also host special Guest Chef Nights on selected Wednesdays throughout the year.
Our next Guest Chef Night is with the award-winning Ruth Hansom on Wednesday 25 June. Tickets cost £40 per head, with arrival at 6pm to dine for 6.15pm.
Ruth is currently the owner and Head Chef at Hansom Restaurant and Wine Bar in North Yorkshire. Her career started as an apprentice at the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, where she worked at the Ritz London to complete her training. Her first Head Chef position came at Pomonas in Notting Hill, then The Princess of Shoreditch, which quickly gained accolades including 3 AA Rosettes and inclusion in the Michelin Guide.
Ruth was a finalist on the BBC’s Great British Menu in 2020 and a National Chef of the Year finalist in 2023.
Our students will work alongside Ruth to serve up a decadent menu that includes heritage beetroot, roasted quail and rice pudding soufflé.
