This qualification will help students gain an understanding of the Education sector and the role of a Teaching Assistant in supporting learning and development of children. It will provide you with the skills needed to work in the Education sector. You might want to be a Teaching Assistant or the Teacher but are currently undecided – if so, this is the course for you.
Pre-Access is the ideal course if you have either been out of education for a while or need to attain English and maths qualifications required to progress to an Access to HE course or employment.
The course will introduce you to key subjects, including the Physical development of children, Intellectual development of children, Understanding social and emotional development, Cognitive development, Contribute to the Support of Positive Environments for Children and Young People and an Introduction to Education Studies. You'll also be developing the knowledge, skills, and behaviours you'll need for further study in a subject you're passionate about.
Alongside the course, you will have the opportunity to study English and/or maths qualifications to enable your further progression. The level of English and maths you are enrolled in will be dependent on your prior qualifications (see entry requirements) and completion of an initial assessment.
Level 1 English and Maths Functional Skills or above
Depending on your starting qualifications, you can study Level 2 English and Maths Function Skills, or GCSE English and Maths alongside the course.
Assessments for this qualification are made up of coursework.
Upon successful completion of this qualification students will be able to progress onto an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Education or into work.
