All the students that attended the awards were nominated by a member of staff or fellow student in one or more of this year’s categories.  A panel of judges, which was made up of staff and students from across the College and UCEN Manchester, then shortlisted the best nominations in each category.

At the same time, we have noted in our response to the Government consultation several key technical aspects of the TEF which we feel need to be resolved before it goes live if it is to be a success. “The bill will open up the market to new providers which in turn will widen participation in higher education. Again this has to be a good thing: it opens up more choice for people and the chance of more vocational courses tailored to what the economy needs, at a time when it is more important than ever that people get the right skills.

Our Success at Greater Manchester Skills Competition

We're so proud that these placements were across a wide range of challenges which showcased our students' industry-standard skills across our curriculum. "Competitions are also about confidence building, experiencing new places and meeting new people, so competitors, whether they are placed or not, often leave with a renewed belief in themselves. A huge well done to all those who entered these competitions and I hope you really enjoyed it and gained a lot from the experience."

The Manchester College makes the second stage of the Beacon Awards

The Manchester College makes the second stage of the Beacon Awards - The Manchester College has made it through in four categories in this year’s Association of College’s (AoC) Beacon Awards, the only college in the country to do so. The College, which is number one for achievement in Greater Manchester, is now through to the second stage in the following categories: The Careers and Enterprise Company  Award for Innovation in Careers and Enterprise Pears #iwill Award for Social Action and Student Engagement Jisc Award for Effective use of  Digital Technology in Further Education City and Guild Award for College Engagement with Employers The finalists of each category will be officially announced at the AoC Conference, which is set to take place in November, and the winners of each category will be announced at a national award ceremony in March 2020.

Ian is king of the kitchen thanks to The Manchester College

Pursuing a passion in patisserie with The Manchester College has proved life changing for one adult learner. Ian Brooke had been working in customer relations for a mobile phone company, but left after signing up to the Level 2 Certificate in Patisserie and Bakery based at Fielden campus in September.
