Run by students in our Industry Excellence Academy for Hospitality and Catering, our 40-seat restaurant and bar also has street level access so passers-by alike can enjoy the tasteful talents of our students dishes.   You can find us in Manchester city centre right next door to the AO Arena at our new City Campus Manchester. 1853 will reopen from Wednesday 22 January 2025  for lunch service, with bookings available going forwards every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during term time from 12pm to 12.45pm.

Progression with UCEN Manchester - Angela Ward, a former Media Make-up student at The Manchester College, has found her future with the help of our HE provider UCEN Manchester. After completing both her Level 2 and 3, she decided to enrol on the FDA Special Effects Make-up Artistry course. With dreams to work in the TV and film industry as a professional Make-up Artist before establishing her own make-up academy, UCEN Manchester tutors worked closely with Angela to ensure she was equipped with the right knowledge and skills to excel in the industry.

 ‘ Steps to Exam Success ’, by ESOL tutor Tariq Khan is aimed at students who are experiencing difficulties studying and revising for their exams, and is applicable for everyone from GCSE to degree level. After teaching revision sessions for many years, it was a chance encounter with a student that led to Tariq putting his methods and ideas into a book.

Students shine at national awards

The creative students scooped six awards across five categories including first and second place in Advanced Nail Art – Mirror Image, second place in Free Hand Nail Design, third place in Gender Transformation and Creative Nail Art, and fourth place in Ladies Evening Hair. Kirsty Hughes, 25, who is studying on the Level 3 Nail Technician course at the College’s Northenden Campus, won first place in the Advanced Nail Art – Mirror Image category. The category’s theme was ‘Fruit’ and Kirsty’s 3D grape design clinched her top prize.

Ammar is on the route to success with Stagecoach

Following a week’s work placement at Stagecoach’s Hyde Road depot, Ammar secured a four year apprenticeship with the bus operator, fulfilling his lifelong dream to work for the company. Ammar, who finished his Level 3 Engineering studies in July 2018, said: My attendance wasn’t great during the first year of my course but during the second and final year of my course I turned myself around.

Students partner with Manchester Art Gallery for Future Creatives 2021

Previous Future Creatives projects include ‘ This City is our Canvas ’, ‘ Reflection, Reimagination, Repetition ’ and ‘ Why Religion? ’ Level 2 students are also taking part in a live brief around the Black Lives Matter movement with The Ideas Foundation . The brief explores the political and social movement, with the challenging subject addressed in a creative, visual outcome which helps to pose questions and help educate.
