Impressive 25% rise in GCSE English passes for 16-18 year-old students

This is real proof that if you don’t initially get the results you need, you still have the opportunity to be successful.” Students at The Manchester College responded in style to the new GCSE grading system with a 14% increase in the number of English high grades (9-4) for all students (18-16 and 19+). Largely regarded by education experts as the hardest GCSE exams in 30 years, the College has seen its overall pass rate increase to 96% this year and rise by 8% for high grades 9-4 (A*-C).

Students takeover Manchester Libraries Instagram account with lockdown images

The Instagram takeover replaces a planned week-long display of work at Manchester Central Library and will start on Monday 15 June.  A new set of images will be added to Instagram each day of that week. The first images will be available to view online from Monday 15 June via Library Live , with a direct link to the Manchester Libraries Instagram pages  to view in more detail.

Staying Social at home

The Manchester College community, staff and students, have done an amazing job at adjusting to new routines and online learning whilst making the most of living in isolation. Whilst continued learning is incredibly important to us, we are aware not spending time with loved ones or being able to have fun with friends you normally spend full days with could have implications on mental health.

Childhood Studies Pathways Shown at Careers Event

Industry experts, including guests from Kidzrus and Vision for Education, attended the event to highlight the wide range of established and new career opportunities available in the early years and education sectors.   Childhood Studies Course Leader Nicola Dillon, who co-organised the event, commented: "It's important we support students with career progression and job opportunities so they are aware of all the avenues they can explore.

Students hit the fashion runway with their designs

The Visual Arts students had taken part in a competition run by Singapore Airlines as part of the company’s celebrations to launch new non-stop routes from Manchester Airport to Singapore. Following the catwalk show, a panel of judges from Singapore Airlines, Manchester Airport and The Manchester College, sat down to choose the overall winner.
