Students Help to Build Openshaw Campus on Placement Scheme

Caddick Construction was awarded the contract to build the £25m teaching facility at The Manchester College’s Openshaw campus in September. They will continue to have students on site each week on a half termly rotation until the completion of the project. The students will undertake on-site supervised tasks working with site engineers and health & safety managers before delivering a project at the end of the six-week placement.

Building links with the local community - Bricklaying students from the college’s Welcombe Street site boarded the Be Amazing bus on day two of Be Amazing Manchester Week to visit local charity Mens Shed Manchester. Mens Shed Manchester runs a project in Lower Openshaw which brings socially isolated local people together to work on a community garden.

A job to do for National Careers Week - We’re embracing National Careers Week across The Manchester College, with a range of activities on our campuses A variety of leading local and national employers are visiting our sites to meet students and explore their career options, including the BBC, NHS, Home Cinema and many more. Some of our students are also starting a three-week College takeover today (Monday 5 March), where they’ll be working alongside our staff in different departments such as Marketing, Catering, Finance and Administration.

The Manchester College names Wythenshawe campus Howard House

The Manchester College names Wythenshawe campus Howard House - The Manchester College and parent organisation LTE Group have named their Wythenshawe site Howard House in honour of former student and passionate fundraiser Kirsty Howard.  Kirsty’s family were VIP guests at the official naming ceremony on Friday 23 March and unveiled the plaque announcing the new name of the recently-refurbished site.
