Students cook up a treat for Mary Berry

Held at three locations simultaneously, the YesChef fundraiser gave guests a first class culinary experience in a bid to raise money for The Lakeside Project, a YMCA activity camp for disadvantaged young people in the Lake District. The Manchester College students worked from 3pm to 11pm, with one student even managing to get a selfie with Mary Berry herself. Hospitality tutor Andrew Foster said the College was approached by the event organisers and asked to take part.

The final three designs reflected a variety of themes linked to Manchester: Manchester’s Secret Gardens in the Lowry Outlet at Salford Quays Inspired by the book ‘Secret Garden’ written by Manchester born Frances Hodgson, this bench features some of the open spaces and hidden outdoor gems in Greater Manchester.

Students talk all things Animal Care

You get to learn lots of theory, on topics such as biology, grooming and feeding, which supports all the practical work we do caring for the animals. There were other courses closer to where I live but it was this one in particular that I wanted to come to because of its study modules. I originally wanted to work with dogs in particular, but there is such a large mix of animals here that I’m loving working with the racoons.
