Play written by Visual Arts student performed at The Lowry Theatre

Brought to life by 22 actors from The Manchester College, Pemberton College and Stretford High School, alongside five musicians and a production team, The Lowry hosted a scratch performance on May 2, before the full polished and complete version was performed twice on July 4. When tickets for the July 4 performances sold out in under ten days, The Lowry offered another performance on July 3, which was also a very near full house.

In partnership with The Chefs’ Forum, Simon Wood, MasterChef Winner and owner of Wood Manchester, has served up a delicious recipe that us northern folk just can’t resist:  Simon’s Steak & Onions (In a Yorkshire Pudding Wrap) Part 1: Ingredients 1kg beef stewing steak 2 tablespoons of oil 2 large onions 8 cloves garlic, whole, peeled 2 bay leaves 1 sprig yhyme 150ml red wine 1 beef stock pot / cubes / Bouillon Sea salt and black pepper Method Place an oven proof casserole on the heat and add in your oil, bring up to temperature and then add in your steak, colouring evenly, dust with your corn flour and cook out until brown all over.

Visual Arts students host Whitworth Gallery workshops

The students have also completed a number of tasks, such as marketing exhibitions to young audiences, visual merchandising and coming up with new product concepts for the gallery shop. For their final task, eight of the students ran workshops for the general public in response to the gallery’s ‘Traces of Displacement’ exhibition, using unusual techniques to create art.

TMC and UCEN Manchester awarded TEC status

The TEC in Greater Manchester is one of 19 projects announced today by the Government , which will collectively provide 65,000 learners across the country with access to the high-level technical skills needed to access well-paid, high-skilled jobs.  Backed by £175 million of government funding, the 19 new TECs will deliver high-quality training in the sectors driving Britain's growth, giving learners a clear route from education into work.

Laura navigates lockdown to achieve success

Laura, 31, returned to education last year after discussing her options with College’s Careers and Welfare team.  She will now progress on to an Access to HE course in Social Science with higher education provider UCEN Manchester and plans to study for a degree in Criminology.

Shirin Wins Medal at the WorldSkills UK National Finals

Ana also had a great performance, creating intricate pulled sugar models and a mouth-watering selection of treats for the afternoon tea challenge. Howard Wallace, Departmental Team Leader for Hospitality, Travel and Tourism, commented: “Before her WorldSkills UK training, Shirin had never worked with pulled sugar or made a chocolate showpiece and as such we could not be prouder of her bronze medal success.
