Businesses celebrated at Employer Thank You ceremony

Over 40 companies who offer work experience and work related activity to The Manchester College students were invited to attend an Employers Thank You ceremony in the Openshaw  Lecture Theatre and collect a framed Certificate of Appreciation. The companies, from industry sectors including hospitality, construction and transport, have all arranged relevant high-quality work experience placements for 16 to 18-year-old students, a key Government requirement to boost employability.

Students selected to exhibit work at Origins Creatives

Origins Creatives is organised by UAL Awarding Body and provides art lovers, critics and industry professionals from the creative sector the chance to discover original creative talent from across the UK and celebrate students’ creativity and hard work.   The free exhibition showcases work from some of the UK’s most talented students in FE institutions studying across the UAL subject areas of Art and Design, Fashion Business and Retail, Creative Media, Music Performance and Production and Performing Arts.

College wins multiple awards in 2023 GM Skills Competition

All Greater Manchester’s nine further education colleges take part in, and host one of, the subject specific GM Skills Competitions where participants complete tasks and respond to briefs that challenge them to demonstrate their advanced skill level in their chosen sector. In this year’s competition students at The Manchester College demonstrated exceptional and advance skill levels to claim first overall prize in both the Performing Arts Competition and the Sport & Public Service Competition.

The Manchester College students curate playlists for Manchester Airport bar

From aligning music choices with brand identity to ensuring variety within the playlist options, they are gaining hands-on experience in the hospitality and entertainment sectors.   Heidi Barlow, Head of Business Development and Brand Relationships at Avolta, said:  “We're so pleased The Manchester College agreed to work with us on such an important part of our Amber Alehouse refurbishment project - this is a Manchester music bar so it was essential we reached out to locally-based, music enthusiasts to help us curate the iconic playlist.
