In partnership with The Chefs’ Forum, Simon Wood, MasterChef Winner and owner of Wood Manchester, has served up a delicious recipe that us northern folk just can’t resist:  Simon’s Steak & Onions (In a Yorkshire Pudding Wrap) Part 1: Ingredients 1kg beef stewing steak 2 tablespoons of oil 2 large onions 8 cloves garlic, whole, peeled 2 bay leaves 1 sprig yhyme 150ml red wine 1 beef stock pot / cubes / Bouillon Sea salt and black pepper Method Place an oven proof casserole on the heat and add in your oil, bring up to temperature and then add in your steak, colouring evenly, dust with your corn flour and cook out until brown all over.

With the government changes to vocational and technical education, with the introduction of the Careers Strategy (2017)  and the new White Paper (2021)  ), more importance is being placed on linking curriculum learning to careers.  It’s also one of the eight Gatsby Benchmarks  which all schools and colleges are working towards to deliver high quality careers education, and to make study subjects relevant to working life.

Visual Arts students host Whitworth Gallery workshops

The students have also completed a number of tasks, such as marketing exhibitions to young audiences, visual merchandising and coming up with new product concepts for the gallery shop. For their final task, eight of the students ran workshops for the general public in response to the gallery’s ‘Traces of Displacement’ exhibition, using unusual techniques to create art.

Students from The Manchester College set to compete in WorldSkills UK National Finals

Thanks to their exceptional performances during each stage, they will join 18 other finalists from colleges in Greater Manchester at the National Finals, which will take place at venues across the region from Tuesday 19 to Friday 22 November 2024.
