The Manchester College Students at AHT Blackpool Competition

The regional heat leads to the national final at the same venue in May and it has been a hallmark event on the Hair and Beauty department’s annual calendar for years, providing the opportunity for the College's students to compete against aspiring hair and beauty professionals from across the region. The talented Level 2 and Level 3 students, who are based at the College’s Harpurhey Campus, were placed for their expertise in bridal make-up and nails, and came second in the ‘Create an Image Based on a Theme’ category (pictured), which is a team event.

Celebrity Chefs to the Manchester College for Charity Launch

After much deliberation due to the standard being so high, the winners were as follows: James Martin chose Professional Cookery Level 2 student Andy Tran; Andrew Nutter chose Level 3 student Jason Wood; Simon Wood chose Level 2 student Eshanti Laing; and Lisa Goodwin-Allen chose Patisserie and Confectionary Level 3 student Sian Wilson.

Hospitality and Catering Students Have Starry-Michelin-Eyes - Students at The Manchester College’s Industry Excellence Academy for Hospitality & Catering have received Michelin star level training just a month into their course. Dan Scott, Kitchen Manager at Mana , currently Manchester’s only Michelin star restaurant, led a Chefs’ Forum Academy session with Level 2 Professional Cookery students at the Openshaw campus this week.

Visual Arts TMC  is a collaborative online space featuring the work of art & design, photography and fashion students from all qualification levels. The blog will be submitted as part of UAL Origins annual exhibition, which is usually held at a prestigious venue in London.

Creative media students selected for London exhibition

The exhibition, at London’s Menier Gallery, was an exciting opportunity for the students to display their work to the public. Linda Keller (UAL Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology) and Will Seymour-Murphy (UAL Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology [Digital Art and Animation] travelled to London to see their work on show.

Students cook up a treat for Mary Berry

Students cook up a treat for Mary Berry - Students from The Manchester College rose to the challenge of serving queen of cakes Mary Berry a gourmet three course meal during a fundraising event at The Monastery in Gorton. Level 1 and Level 2 Hospitality and Catering  and Travel and Tourism students worked in both front of house and kitchen staff roles at the YesChef event, where Mary Berry was guest speaker for the evening.

Jessica’s Right at HOME with the BFI Academy

Academy participants were also encouraged to undertake a Silver Arts Award, a Level 2 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and demonstrating continued learning as part of their placement. This will look fantastic on Jessica’s CV and set her apart from the competition when applying for future work.
