Year 11 Experience Day

The day started with an introduction from the Schools Liaison Team who told the students all about The Manchester College, the study programmes on offer, the state-of-the-art facilities and the amazing experiences students get to take part in every day. Students spent the day taking part in taster sessions, with several different curriculum areas including Hospitality & Catering, Art & Design, Creative & Digital Media and Automotive Studies to choose from.

Unique photography project gains council backing

The council has officially backed the project which allows students unparalleled access to the stars of music, sport, art and business. Students also get to direct each individual photo shoot to capture a series of striking yet intimate shots. The council is also working to involve the College's Visual Arts department in art and cultural events within the city and procure future exhibition space on the project's completion.

Marie Stock awarded MBE for services to education

It is a real surprise to have received an award for doing something I love.” As an Irish citizen, Marie’s MBE was not announced in the New Years’ Honours list, with her honour instead being announced following the process for non-British citizens which was formally confirmed today.

Madelyn’s lockdown video wins DEVA/Hack competition

I've really struggled with loneliness over lockdown, as I'm an only child and barely get to see any of my friends, so I wanted to use those feelings as inspiration for my film, and to also let people know who feel like I do that you're not alone” Madelyn is the second College student in a row to win the DEVA/Hack workshop, following on from Stoyan Bekyarov’s success last year.

Noel Gallagher, Dame Sarah Storey and John Cooper Clarke feature in Greater Mancunians photography exhibition

Photography tutor at The Manchester College and project lead, Harry Potts, encouraged other students to think of more people who were born and bred in Greater Manchester or who have made it their home and, in some way, have shaped the region culturally.  From this initial idea the College started inviting a selection of musicians, actors, comedians, sportspeople, entertainers, politicians, artists, poets and community heroes to be photographed in a location of their choosing.

It is time to Love Our Colleges

The reality is that the amount of funding per student in FE colleges has dropped by 16 per cent between 2010/11 and 2018/19, while funding per full-time student has fallen 18 percent, according to a new report from the Education Policy Institute; twice the decline rate of schools. The report concludes that post-16 education has been the biggest long-term loser of any phase of education.

The Manchester College Students in Platinum Jubilee Pageant

Divano Gordon and Jordan-Louis Chisholm worked on the photoshoot, alongside fellow students Mya Ellis, Marcus Hough, Paris Bate, Isabella Ekwugha and Conner Perry.    On hearing the news their poster had been chosen, Jordan said: “It was just surreal, I don't think there are any other words I could pick. It had been months since the shoot and so to hear that one of our photographs had been chosen for something so momentous as to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee has left me at a total loss for words.”
