Students taken out of their comfort zone to build key employability skills - Third year students on our BSc School Sports and Sports Coaching course have taken part in a unique team building session delivered by a local charity, Challenge 4 Change.  Challenge 4 Change ‘provides team building courses to enable people to acquire skills, knowledge and understanding of both themselves and others through experience in a unique and engaging way’.

Actor Sally Carman appointed as first Performing Arts patron

Sally, who is also known for her role as Kelly Maguire in popular TV series ‘Shameless’, visited Shena Simon campus on Friday 20 September, 2019, and met with Musical Theatre and Acting students. During a Q&A with them, Sally credited her coal mining father for her success, explaining how he had worked overtime to enable her to attend drama school.

Students Create Campaign and Pitch it to BBC Professionals

The groups then operated as mini creative agencies to develop their campaign, taking on all the professional roles needed to bring their campaign to life. On the fifth and final day, the teams pitched their ideas to BBC Creative professionals at the BBC offices at Quay House, providing them with valuable work experience.

Christmas comes early

Guests were treated to roast turkey with lashings of rich gravy donned colourful crowns sprung from Christmas crackers and tucked into a selection of mince pies and celebratory chocolates. Work experience helps shape Zubair’s plans to build career in architecture

The Employability and Partnership team work tirelessly to provide opportunities for our students. Zubair is studying for an extended diploma in Construction and the Built Environment, with a view to starting a career in architecture, but he was beginning to doubt whether this was the path for him.
