The Manchester College partners with Community Revival to offer students hands-on work experience

Through these placements, Computing and Digital students take on roles in IT Support, where they manage website updates, troubleshoot issues, create digital content, and oversee social media activities. Salman Chaudhari, who is studying towards a T Level in Digital Business Services at the College described his experience with Community Revival during his Foundation Year placement as “thrilling and eventful”.

Asha Lee’s industry work placement with Oak Lodge Care home

Industry placements, which equate to approximately 45 days of experience, have been introduced by the Department for Education to give 16-19-year-old students on technical and vocational courses the chance to put into practice the knowledge and practical skills they have gained from a college course. This is in preparation for the roll out of T-Levels in 2020 and beyond. Fiona Richardson, Employability and Partnership Co-ordinator, said: Work placements are incredibly important to our students, they help to develop soft skills such as communications, organisation and time keeping skills.

Quality-driven work experience Whilst there are many different options to consider on our employer section , offering an industry placement (315 hours / 50 days) is a great way to engage with potential future talent as it allows a young person to make a sustained and tangible impact on your day-to-day activities or special projects. In preparation for the national launch of the new T-Levels , we’ve been organising and supporting these extended placements for the past two academic years on government-led pilots. We therefore have the know-how and track record to make it a great experience for both you and the student you choose to host.
